Clean-UP Tool: Norton Power Eraser
Some malware can be very difficult to remove If you have a badly infected system, you maybe forced to try several clean-up programs before you can eliminate the last stubborn traces. This free, portable tool from Symantec is designed to tackle resistant threats and identify infections missed by other similar software it’s a cloud-based program, so you don’t need to worry about downloading updates, and you can choose to scan your entire system or lust selected directories. Full system sweeps are impressively quick and seem very thorough. The software can be set to run in Normal or Aggressive mode. Symantec describes Norton Power Eraser as a last-resort, extreme tool’ and advises you to take care when using the program. It can flag up legitimate software for removal when running in Aggressive mode, so you’ll need to check carefully before deleting anything. Clicking on a potential threat’s name will provide further information about it.
You can choose which flagged items you want to remove and the program will create a System Restore point before it makes any changes, so you can roll back your system in the event of any problems. Norton Power Eraser is in beta at the moment, so it could well undergo some changes before it’s properly released. The software is very stable and reliable, though, and shouldn’t cause you any major problems. It can be run alongside your existing anti-virus software, providing a useful second level of protection.
