Here is a picture of a reported rare Superman Ring, a Supermen of America Ring. The Supermen of America Ring was reportedly issued by DC Comics. It’s production date was reportedly in the 1940s. One such eBay auction gives insight into the popularity and beauty of the ring. A current auction shows 22 bids with 6 days still left, the highest bid now over $4,000. The seller’s description reads:

This is a very rare first-ever Superman Premium Ring released to the public by DC Comics in the 1940’s. It is a silver metal ring with a brass Superman in the center, surrounded by the brass inscription “Supermen of America Member” on a red painted background. One side of the ring has two lightening bolts, and the other side has a planet.

This Ring is in very good condition. The red background paint has some loss between words; the brass Superman is all good except a small area around his head that has darkened; and the silver metal has worn off in two minor places (none is missing on the planet as the photo seems to show…that is only a reflection).

Alexander Haig has died. The former secretary of state served as a four-star general and a top adviser to three presidents. He had presidential ambitions of his own, but never lived down televised remarks he made following the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, in which he said he was in control at the White House. The family says Haig died this morning at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore of complications from an infection. He was 85.

Alexander Haig never officially became president, but his influence at key moments of post-Vietnam US history assured his reputation as a controversial but often effective power-broker who held the country’s reins twice – once by proxy, once by sheer will.

The Philadelphia-born Haig, a Vietnam War hero, came off as both political pro and power-hungry at two key junctures: the Watergate scandal and the assassination attempt on then-president Ronald Reagan.

Known for “haigravations” such as “saddle myself with a statistical fence,” Haig correctly predicted that his decision, as secretary of state, to supersede constitutional succession after the shooting of Mr. Reagan to wrongly declare to the press, “I am in control here,” would become the third paragraph of his obituary.

His intercession in the waning months of the Richard Nixon presidency as chief of staff earned Haig higher plaudits. He is credited with keeping the White House afloat as Nixon’s despondency grew under the 1974 impeachment threat that drove him from office. “[Haig] was the president toward the end,” wrote William Saxbe, a Nixon biographer.

Before his rise to power and brushes with the Oval Office, Haig laid the groundwork for his political career in Korea and Vietnam. Reads his official Army citation in reference to a bloody two-day battle at Ap Gu in March 1967: “When two of his companies were engaged by a large hostile force, Colonel Haig landed amid a hail of fire, personally took charge of the units, called for artillery and air fire support and succeeded in soundly defeating the insurgent force.”

Having tasted the presidency twice, the mercurial Haig made a run for the office in 1988, but came in last in Iowa before withdrawing from the New Hampshire primary. He called himself “the darkest of the dark horses” in the race. Haig died Saturday in Baltimore.

Scotty Lago Pictures 2010 – Lago leaves Olympics after scandal

Wherever there is fame or celebrity, there is bound to be paparazzi. Newly-bronzed Olympic Halfpipe medalist Scotty Lago found this out the hard way Thursday night in Vancouver. While out celebrating on the town, Lago was captured in a somewhat compromising position with his Bronze Medal. Lago has volunteered to leave the Olympics after the pictures of him showed up on the Internet earlier today.

Lago, who was awarded his bronze medal Thursday night, was at a party, wearing a Team USA T-shirt when somebody snapped a photo of a woman kneeling below Lago’s waist to kiss his medal. That picture, and another showing him sticking the medal in the woman’s mouth while teammate Greg Bretz looks on, appeared Friday on the TMZ Web site.
Lago apologized to officials at the U.S. Olympic Committee and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and decided to go home.

In the aftermath of several out-of-competition incidents in Turin, one of which resulted in the dismissal of freestyle skier Jeret Peterson, the USOC has made extra efforts to emphasize athletes be on their best behavior when they’re at the Olympics.

Before the Beijing Games, the USOC began its “Ambassador Program” that athletes are made to complete before they travel to the games.

Lago was a member of a group of snowboarders called the “Frends,” that included Kevin Pearce and Danny Davis, both of whom were badly injured before the Olympics and couldn’t make the trip.

“I put all that aside and rode,” Lago said.

He said he put together one of the best runs of his life to win the surprise bronze on a night overshadowed by Shaun White and his gold-medal performance.

CCleaner now supports secure wiping of MFT free space for NTFS drives.

The Master File Table (MFT) contains an index of the files on an NTFS drive. As the computer overwrites and deletes files, the MFT can accumulate free space which may contain remnants of index pointers to deleted files. You can now set CCleaner to wipe the MFT free space, just as you have been able to set it to wipe free drive space.

To set CCleaner to wipe MFT free space:
In CCleaner, click the Options button.
