Mark Zuckerberg: Facebook promises privacy changes

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has admitted that the social network has “missed the mark” by offering over-complicated privacy settings. Zuckerberg promised to implement a new, simpler system in the coming weeks to pacify critics who objected to the site’s complex privacy controls and plans to share personal data with third parties. “Many of you thought our controls were too complex. Our intention was to give you lots of granular controls; but that may not have been what many of you wanted. We just missed the mark,” he said.

“In the coming weeks, we will add privacy controls that are much simpler to use. We will also give you an easy way to turn off all third-party services. We are working hard to make these changes available as soon as possible,” Zuckerberg continued. The move is Facebook’s response to growing criticism from consumer groups such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Several senior politicians, including two US senators, have also voiced objections to Facebook’s privacy policies in recent months.
